Getting Around

Stuck on how to get around Reason? Here are some handy tips.

How to edit Tempo or Time Signature Automation in Reason 6

I seem to remember that in the last release(s) of Reason, to edit Tempo or Time Signature Automation, you could right click on the Sequencer and add an Automation lane. As I now fail to see this option, it took me some time to figure out how to do this in Reason 6.

Edit Tempo Automation

It’s actually quite straightforward – to edit Tempo or Time Signature automation in Reason 6, simply right click on either the Tempo or Time Signature in the Transport panel, and low and behold, the Automation option is there.

From there, you can edit Tempo automation like you would for anything else (CV, volume etc.). The Time Signature works slightly differently in the way you choose what Time Signature you would like use, much in the same way you would choose a pattern for a Redrum section.

Reason Preferences Window

Sometimes in Reason you need to change a setting or two. More than likely, it is to do with the audio. i know I’ve had to do it myself – how do I change the audio input / output?

Another popular one is that a MIDI device for some reason is not working, and you know it’s turned on, but not getting a response. How do you go about finding the settings for this?

Not a problem, it is in fact rather easy and you would have been here before when installing Reason!

Go to Edit -> Preferences, and you will be greeted with the Preferences window. This is what the Audio tab will look like:
Preferences Window

This is where you will change settings such as audio latency, audio in and out and tuning if required.

The Control Surfaces tab will allow you to change and edit settings for your MIDI controllers.

The chances are that you will have to now and again jump back to this window, but lucky for you, the Propellerheads have tried to contain all the settings you need in one place. Handy if you ask me.
